Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

Coaching is a new technology of personal and professional development based on concepts from sports, business, spirituality, psychology and organizational development. It's for passionate people who want more from their personal and business lives. A coach  believes their clients have their answers.  It is the coach that asks the questions to unleash the solutions the client seeks.  The coach will partner with the client to help set larger, more rewarding goals, develop a strategy to achieve them and provide support throughout the process. It's not unlike having a personal trainer or an athletic coach... transformational, but in a business and personal sense. The achievement of goals is something that comes more quickly as a result of the coaching partnership.

Coaching works when...

Coaching works when two factors present: 1) The client is willing to grow, and 2) The client realizes there is something more that they want or put another way, there is a gap between where they are now and where they want to be.

Successful coaching clients are aware of the value of partnering with a professional coach who understands them and provides a healthy balance of subjectivity and objectivity.   Discussing and exploring options, possibilities, blocks and goals with someone who listens, provides a powerful process that makes the journey much more focused and tangilble.

Coaching works because of three unique features:

Synergy/Energy: Client and coach become a team, focusing on the client's goals and needs and accomplishing more than the client would alone.

Structure: With a coach, the client takes more actions, thinks bigger and gets the job done, thanks to the accountability the coach provides and the work you, the client, puts into the partnership.

Expertise: The coach knows how to help people, in business and life, make better decisions, set the best goals, develop new skills for communicating and restructure their professional and personal lives for maximum productivity.

Starting with a coach...

Most coaching partnerships begin with an initial meeting via face to face or telephone to get to know each other. The coach asks and listens to the client's goals, needs, and blocks.  The client needs and will want to ensure comfort with the coach.  Another key ingredient for success is a comfortable & trusting coaching relationship.  Additionally during this meeting, both parties design a list of goals and a game plan to reach these goals.

How do Coaching sessions work?

Coaching can be accomplished either face to face or over the phone. The coachee completes a coaching call strategy form prior to each call, describing the current challenges and the progress they've made since the last call. Coaching can be on a weekly basis, bi-weekly basis and/or monthly depending upon what you and your coach have negotiated.  Most sessions are 1-hour sessions.

The focus of the call is usually determined by the coachee. The coach helps the coachee to identify the focus, identify possibilities and opportunities. A principle, theory, resource may be introduced to the coachee to provide an additional perspective or information to enhance the coachees current strength.  When taking on a large goal, coaches assist in designing the project into a manageable and supportive structure needed to make sure it gets done. We coaches bring out the clients best by offering powerful questions, expecting a lot, helping coachees strategize and celebrating the wins.

There is often "assignments" given, where the client is given a task of some kind, anew perspective or a challenge to try something in a new way. That forms the basis for the next call.

What happens when you begin an agreement with a coach?

You take more effective and focused actions immediately.
You discover and eliminate what blocks or how you get in your own way.
You create momentum to achieve more, be more balanced and develop more powerful management skills.
You set personal goals that are clear and meet your needs.
You begin actively living more of the life you really want and imagine.

You become more of what you ever imagined.
